
Regional English Language Officers (RELOs) are U.S. State Department specialists who design and manage programs to promote language learning and support the teaching of English in countries around the world. RELOs also conduct needs assessments and provide guidance to embassies and host country officials on English as a Foreign Language education. They oversee many programs as part of the Public Affairs Section of their U.S. embassy, including but not limited to the English Language Fellow, Virtual Educators, and Specialist Programs, the English Access Microscholarship Program, The Online Professional English Network Program, social media, virtual exchanges, and in-person exchanges. .
