Bilingual Educator Sergio Enrique Gomez Fajardo is committed to improving his students’ English skills.
“I am convinced that my role as a bilingual educator is to be a guide, a person who helps students find the best way to learn,” says Gomez. “I try to create a comfortable environment in which students are encouraged to learn more and more. In this way I can bring about a real necessity for improving English and getting more in contact with the culture of the language they are learning.”
Besides other media such as books, videos, and newspapers, Gomez uses social media, such as the Access Teachers Bogotá and Access Network blogs, to encourage his students to practice their English skills.
“Technological support is an essential tool in second language acquisition,” says Gomez. “The encouragement to develop writing skills by means of interesting topics is a must that produces high outcomes in the students’ English language proficiency. Also, we have had the opportunity to interact in two blogs: Access Teachers Bogotá and Access Network. There students had the possibility to post in different blogs about diverse topics and share with other students in English.”
