Gita Samsi Nasution, English Teacher in Indonesia

Teacher Perspectives

“I really enjoy sharing knowledge, meeting a lot of new people, and helping them to improve their language capabilities,” says Gita Nasution, an English teacher in Indonesia.

Gita now realizes how important resources are when it comes to teaching her students and credits the AmericanEnglish website for the endless array of teaching materials available to help her do her job.

“I am an ordinary English teacher who will always try to put myself inside my students’ shoes, picturing how they would find my way of teaching or how they would want me to teach them.”

“I believe that in order to accelerate learning one should look for more resources, and it goes also in teaching,” says Gita. “We can’t give students the same material/presentation over and over again; we ought to create interactive exercises to prevent boredom.”

“Some supplements I have found at the site americanenglish.state.gov are so helpful. I can get classroom management ideas, e-journals, and find interactive learning activities; I can even join American English on Facebook – dedicated for teachers to improve knowledge and maintain fresh teaching ideas. I have access to tons of materials, from teaching young learners to general knowledge on best practices in teaching. We are looking forward to the forthcoming interactive game, called “Trace Effects.”

With resources in hand, Gita hopes her students will get excited about learning English and use the language to achieve their goals.

“I want to be known as a passionate teacher, says Gita, whose goals are not only to share the knowledge I have but also give encouragement to all my students that there are plenty of ways to achieve what life has to offer.”
