4. American English, Trace Effects Receive Webby Award Honors

   Two websites launched this year by the Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) have been recognized by the 2013 Webby Awards, a leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet. American English, ECA’s new site featuring learning materials for English language teachers and learners was named an “Official Honoree” in the “Government” category as one of the best government websites of the year. In addition, the interactive 3D English learning videogame, Trace Effects, was recognized in the “Youth” category as one of this year’s best websites intended for a youth audience.

5. 10th Anniversary of Access Awards Alumni with U.S. Visit

   The English Access Microscholarship program (Access) is celebrating its 10th Anniversary with a U.S. exchange opportunity. This rare occasion brings 23 of the program’s highest-achieving alumni to the U.S. for a two-week visit during which they will demonstrate and improve their leadership skills through meetings with top USG officials as well as directors of various NGOs and representatives of American educational communities. Access is one of ECA’s core public diplomacy programs with scholarships amounting to approximately $25 million for over 18,000 participants annually.
